Written in stone

Virginia Tech and Carilion recently opened a medical school in Roanoke, Virginia. While under construction, they needed a pair of 4-foot square molded concrete medallions to flank the entrance to the building.

I created two designs, one based on the Caduceus (the snake and staff traditionally associated with the medical field) and another reminiscent of DNA. I then worked with a 3D modeller and concrete fabricators to create the final scultures.
